Red meats

Meat is a regular food in our diet; in fact, it provides us with many nutrients, although excessive consumption is not recommended. Ideally, it should be consumed about four times a week. But when we do eat it, the question arises whether red meat or white meat is better.

Meat provides large amounts of proteins necessary for the proper functioning of the body. They are of high quality and easily assimilated, making them one of the fundamental foods for our muscles.

Meats are divided into two types: red meats, named for their characteristic red color. These include beef, ox, and lamb. White meats are so-called because of their lighter color. This type includes poultry such as chicken and turkey, as well as animals like rabbit.

Red meat has its color due to its high myoglobin content. Myoglobin is a protein found in muscle and is the source from which our body obtains iron. Red meat contains high levels of iron, which is very beneficial for the proper functioning of the body and is easily absorbed. This makes red meat highly recommended to maintain good iron levels. However, not everything about red meat is beneficial; it also contains more fat and cholesterol, provides more calories, and excessive consumption may cause heart diseases and increase uric acid levels.

White meat, on the other hand, does not contain the same amounts of iron. It is, however, rich in high biological value proteins, so it is very good for keeping our muscles nourished. The most important aspect of white meat is its low fat content. It barely contains saturated fats and cholesterol, which makes it a friend to our health.

Certainly, we should consume different types of meat since our body needs to receive all kinds of nutrients to function properly, but we should know which one suits us best and which we can rely on at any given moment.
